Title: Methods of signal classification using the images produced by the Wigner-Ville distribution

Abstract: The Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) can be considered as a two-dimensional (time and frequency) representation of a one-dimensional signal. The time-frequency image depicts certain salient features which can be used in recognition and classification of the signals. Three classification schemes, which are different in principle, and can be adopted for the processing of these images, are presented and compared in this paper. Of these the decision theoretic pattern recognition approach is suggested for proper classification of signals. Efficient computational schemes are also proposed in the paper.
Description: This paper was the first to consider the time-frequency representation as an image and apply image processing techniques with SVD for classification of ECG signals.
