dc.description This is an interesting application of the notion of Instantaneous Frequency to Mobile Communications. (The most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia., and then continuously updated). en_US
dc.description.abstract We propose an estimator for the Ricean K-factor which has applications in mobile communication systems. The estimator is based on the statistics of the instantaneous frequency (IF) of the received signal. Using simulations, we show that the proposed estimator is robust to shadowing and its mean-square error (MSE) is significantly lower than that of the envelope-based estimators. en_US
