Abstract:
|
It is argued that the Wigner-Ville time-frequency distribution (WVD) of ECG (electrocardiography) signals reveals additional information that is not apparent in the time domain. The energy distribution and the presence of cross terms in the WVD images are heuristically interpreted on the basis of underlying electrophysiology of the human heart. Using these interpretations, time-frequency domain detection of P waves is examined, and the WVD cross terms are shown to be useful. |

Description:
|
This paper is an earlier version of the work reporting the representation and detection of ECG signals and its P wave characteristic in a time-frequency domain using the X-WVD. It is shown that in this application the WVD cross-terms can be useful.
(The most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia, and then continuously updated). |
