dc.description The paper merges the notion of Time-Frequency Distributions and Higher Order Spectra and applies TVHOS to a mobile communication problem. (The most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia, and then continuously updated). en_US
dc.description.abstract A new method for estimating the instantaneous frequency (IF) of mobile communication signals affected by Rayleigh multiplicative noise is proposed. The method is based on the use of time-varying higher-order spectra (TV-HOS) and particularly the Wigner-Ville trispectrum (WVT). The performance of the method is evaluated under the assumptions of linear FM signals affected by stationary Rayleigh multiplicative noise. It is shown that the WVT allows for optimal estimation of the IF of the signal. en_US
