Title: IF Estimation of FM Signals in Multiplicative Noise

Abstract: The Wigner-Ville spectrum (WVS) and polynomial Wigner-Ville distributions (PWVDs) are considered for the analysis of polynomial FM signals corrupted by multiplicative and additive noise. In the noisy linear FM case, the WVS is shown to give optimal IF localization. Accordingly, the peak of the WVS is proposed as an IF estimator. A statistical performance test shows that this estimator is very accu- rate even at low signal-to-noise ratio values. For the case of the noisy higher-order polynomial FM signal, the peak of the PWVD is shown to be a very consistent and accurate IF estimator.
