Abstract: It has been shown that the XWVD offers a suitable time-frequency replacement for the cross-correlation function used in processing Vibroseis seismic data today. In terms of peak width, no extra resolution is gained. The major gain rests with the fact that the time-variant nature of the spectral content of the recorded signal can easily be observed and compensated. This is not easily achieved with the cross-correlation function and time variant deconvolution. Further justification for the method is presented by Boles [5] where particular attention is given to the pha..se characteristic of the XWVD.
Description: This paper shows that the XWVD offers a suitable time-frequency replacement for the cross-correlation function used in processing Vibroseis seismic data today, using the phase characteristic of the XWVD. In addition, the most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia, and then continuously updated).
