dc.description This paper presents an adaptive algorithm for IF estimation in additive Gaussian noise for multicomponent FM signals and compares it with other QTFD based methods using the optimum lag window length, bias and variance as criteria. dc.description.abstract An adaptive approach to the estimation of the instantaneous frequency (IF) of multicomponent FM signals in additive Gaussian noise has been recently analyzed using a time-only kernel. In this paper we justify applying this approach to other two members of the quadratic class of time-frequency distributions: the spectrogram and Choi-Williams distribution. We also compare the statistical performance of these distributions using the bias, the variance, and the optimum lag window lengths of their IF estimators. en_US
