An accurate Time-Frequency representation of a signal can be obtained by using the Wigner-Vi11e Distribution
(WVD), which is a method of analysis based upon the concepts of analytic signal and instantaneous
frequency. We define a class of signals referred to as "asymptotic" for which the concept of
instantaneous frequency describes an important physical parameter characteristic of the process
under investigation. The WVD analysis procedure is outlined and its properties are reviewed, for
deterministic and random signals. |
