dc.description This chapter reviews contributions made in applying TFSP to communications in general and wireless communications and presents a wide range of possible uses of TFSP methods and techniques in these areas including source localization and source separation problems. (Additional details can be found in the comprehensive book on Time-Frequency Signal Analysis and Processing (see http://www.elsevier.com/locate/isbn/0080443354). In addition, the most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia, and then continuously updated).
dc.description.abstract This chapter is intended to relate recent advances in the field of time-frequency signal processing (TfSP) need for further capacity of wireless communications systems. It first presents, in a brief and heuristic approach, the fundamentals ofTFSP. It then describes the TFSP-based methodologies that are used in wireless communications with special emphasis on spread-spectrum techniques and time-frequency array processing. Topics discussed include channel modeling and identification, estimation of scattering function, interference mitigation, direction of arrival estimation, time-frequency MUSIC, and time-frequency source separation. Finally, other emerging applications of TFSP to wireless communications are discussed. en_US
