Abstract:

The need for analysis of time-varying signals has led to the formulation of a class of joint time-frequency
distributions (TFDs). One of these TFDs, the Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD), has useful properties
which can be applied to radar imaging. This paper first discusses the radar equation in terms of the time-frequency
representation of the signal received from a radar system. It then presents a method of tomographic
reconstruction for time-frequency images to estimate the scattering function of the aircraft. An optical architecture
is then discussed for the real-time implementation of the analysis method based on the WVD. |

Description:
|
This is one of the 1st papers discussing time-frequency radar imaging for a bi-static radar systems, using the Wigner-Ville distribution. An optical processor is used for real time implementation of the WVD.
(Additional details can be found in the comprehensive book on Time-Frequency Signal Analysis and Processing (see http://www.elsevier.com/locate/isbn/0080443354).
In addition, the most recent upgrade of the original software package that calculates Time-Frequency Distributions and Instantaneous Frequency estimators can be downloaded from the web site: www.time-frequency.net. This was the first software developed in the field, and it was first released publicly in 1987 at the 1st ISSPA conference held in Brisbane, Australia, and then continuously updated). |
