The Relationship Between Some Personality Traits and Perceptual Field Independence I Dependence

Abstract

This study examined whether the dimension of personality associated with perceptual field independence - dependence and sex. Using Eysenck personality questionnaire and Group Embedded Figures test prepared by Witkin. The tests and a demographic data were completed by 149 saudi nationals representing two different groups : 1 - College male students (75 subjects, ages H = 20.53, S.D. = 3.74). 2 - College female students (75 subjects, ages H = 21.63, S.D. = 4.12). Using two way analysis of variance the results were : 1 - The field dependence students scored significantly higher than the field independence students on Extraversion. 2 - The field independence students scored significantly higher than the field dependence students on Neuroticism. 3 - In Psychoticism and Lie there were no significant differences between the field independence students and the field dependence students. 4 - Female stutents scored significantly higher than male students on Neuroticism and Lie. 5 - Male students scored significantly higher than female students on Psychoticism. 6 - No significant differences between male and female on Extraversion. 7 - There were no significant effects of interaction between sex and cognitives styles on Extraversion and Psychoticism, but there were significant on Neuroticism.
