Alternative AbstractThe first part of this paper deals with the notion of friendship as presented in AristotVs "Ethics to Nicomachusff. The author attempts to define the concept of friendship and its meaning and importance in the life of individuals and kingdoms. He explores the different types of friendship and their relationship with virtue and happiness. The second part of the paper explores the value of friendship as presented in the writings of Abi Hayyan al- Tawhidi and the conditions governing this notion. He attempts to make comparisons between friendship and some other human relations as kinship relations, love relations etc. The paper outlines the differences and similarities between the two thinkers. The treatment makes it clear that both thinkers have rich ideas and contemplation encompassing all aspects of friendship. These can serve as hypotheses to be tested in the present.
