Abstract Photodegradation curve of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in aqueous solution has been reported. Densities and solution viscosities of very dilute CMC salt solution before and after UV-irradiation have been measured. UV-irradiation of CMC decreases the values of density, specific, reduced and intrinsic viscosities, molar mass, hydrodynamic volume, expansion factor, real and ideal chain dimensions of CMC in solution. In contrary, it increases the solute-solvent interaction and decreases the solute-solute contact in the solution of degradable CMC. en_US
