AbstractIn this study, an investigation on the level of recognition of lean concepts, principles, tools, and techniques in different industrial sectors in Qatar was carried out. The general aim of the study was to determine lean awareness and understand perceptions of a variety of industries on lean thinking. Specific objectives of the investigation were (i) to asses lean awareness in industries in Qatar and (ii) to understand perception of industry with respect to lean benefits and lean challenges. Data from industries were collected through an on-line survey. Collected data was analyzed through statistical methods. Results of the study show that industries in Qatar need to give more credit to lean thinking in order to strategically advance current efficiencies as well as cope with competition at global level. While evidence of differences on the levels of awareness, recognition and appreciation of lean concepts were observed in different industrial sectors, potential for developing lean dynamics that address the disconnects across industries in Qatar exists. Such potential can be tapped in a bid to map out a path towards integrated lean implementation and lean transformation in Qatar industries.
