Faults are an important concept in the study of system dependability, and most approaches to dependability can be characterized by the way in which they deal with faults (e.g., fault avoidance, fault removal, fault tolerance, fault forecasting). In their seminal work on modeling dependable computing, Laprie et al. define a fault as the adjudged or hypothesized cause of an error. In this paper, we propose a more formal definition of a fault in the context of software products and discuss some of its implications. 2017, Springer-Verlag London Ltd.

Inverter-based versus synchronous-based distributed generation; Fault current limitation and protection issues
Massoud, Ahmed; Ahmed, S.; Finney, S. J.; Williams, B. W. ( IEEE , 2010 , Conference Paper)The contribution of distributed generation (DG) to network fault levels depends heavily on the technology employed. In the case of directly connected rotating machines the fault behavior is well established; with synchronous ... -
Sensor fault detection and isolation of an autonomous underwater vehicle using partial kernel PCA
Navi, M.; Davoodi, M.; Meskin, Nader ( Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. , 2015 , Conference Paper)In this paper, partial kernel principal component analysis (PKPCA) is studied for sensor fault detection and isolation (FDI) of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). Principal component analysis (PCA) is an effective ...
