Abstract | The purpose of this study was to determine if there were salary inequities between male and female faculty members in the School of Arts and Sciences at a regional public university. An analysis-of-covariance (ANCOVA) model was used to find out what variables might explain that variation in salaries of 127 Arts and Science faculty. The variables collected and treated with ANCOVA were salary, gender, terminal degree, rank, years of service, and academic discipline. No significance could be attached to the differences between male and female salaries among the faculty. However, higher rank, doctoral degree, and years of service did influence faculty salaries. The largest impact on salaries came from ranks, followed by doctoral degree, and then by the years of service. Key words: Salary equity, ANOVA, Salary inversion, Salary compression, Gender, Rank. |
