Corporate social responsibility and corporate performance: empirical evidence of Qatari listed companies
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm performance (FP) in the context of developing countries. To achieve this purpose, this study investigates 42 Qatari listed companies by indexing their CSR. The relationship between CSR and FP was empirically tested over three years (2014-2017). This paper was unable to find any significant positive relationship between CSR and FP. Such a phenomenon can be explained as the inefficiency of financial markets to convert CSR activities in the form of FP. This study has implications for enhancing the knowledge of performance management by understanding the relationship between CSR and FP, generally in developing countries and particularly in the GCC.
