The dioxouranium(VI)-Schiff base complex (N,N'-p-phenylenebis(salicylideneiminato)UO2); (UO2(sal-p-phdn)) was prepared. Its resonance Raman, infrared and electronic spectra were obtained and assigned on the basis of C2v symmetry. The force constant and the bond length of the U = O bonds were calculated at 676.2 Nm−1 and 1.74 Å, respectively. The electronic absorption band of the complex at 370 nm is assigned to the π-π∗ transition.
