The reactions of I2 with phenazine (PH), acridine (AC) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) have been investigated by resonance Raman and far-infrared spectroscopy. The results indicate that the species (PH)2I+I3−, (AC)2I+I3− and (HMTA)2I+I3− are formed. However, the 1:1 adduct I2. PH is also produced and this can be obtained in relatively pure form by recrystallization.
