Agents Used in the Management of Oral Ulceration
Abstract
This chapter discusses the topical agents used in the management of oral ulcers in general dental practice settings. The common causes of oral ulcers including drug-associated oral ulcers are enlisted. The principles of diagnosis and treatment including the role of mouthwashes, and topical analgesics, anaesthetics, antiseptics, antibiotics and corticosteroids are discussed. The readers are signposted to useful online resources on recognition and management of oral ulcers along with resources which may be used for patient education.
