AbstractThis chapter discusses the common types of oral medications used in the management of neuralgic pain with a focus on trigeminal neuralgia. The general principles of management of orofacial pain are outlined followed by a differential diagnosis of odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain. The mechanism of action indications, contraindications, side effects, dosage, and commercial preparations of the most appropriate medications which may be used for the management of neuralgic pain in general dental practice settings are described. The readers are signposted to useful online resources on the management of trigeminal neuralgia along with resources which may be used for patient education.
