الملخصThis research explores the pivotal role of education in advancing sustainable energy practices in Iraq in the aftermath of conflict, highlighting the urgent environmental challenges faced by the nation. Following years of war, Iraq's vital water resources, particularly the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, have been severely compromised due to rampant pollution and littering, exacerbated by climate change.1 As ranked fourth among the most polluted countries globally, Iraq grapples with alarming levels of air and water pollution that contribute to a public health crisis and significant environmental degradation.2 The degradation of these waterways not only poses serious health risks but also undermines agricultural sustainability and energy production, underscoring the critical need for educational initiatives aimed at fostering awareness and engagement among the youth. This study examines the current state of energy education in Iraq, particularly its intersection with pressing environmental issues such as water pollution and climate change. Successful initiatives aimed at mobilizing youth for river clean-up efforts are highlighted as essential for restoring these vital ecosystems.3 Various organizations and climate change advocates are working to engage young people in hands-on activities, promoting a sense of stewardship for their natural resources and fostering a culture of sustainability. Additionally, the revival of legal frameworks governing littering, animal abuse, and waste disposal is vital for establishing a robust foundation to protect Iraq's environment and wildlife, ensuring that new generations are aware of their legal responsibilities and rights regarding environmental protection.4 Moreover, this research emphasizes the importance of collaboration among government ministries, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations. Effective engagement from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment is critical in integrating sustainable practices into educational curricula, thereby equipping future generations with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle these pressing environmental issues.5 By promoting legal literacy in environmental rights and responsibilities, educational programs can empower youth to become informed advocates for sustainable energy and environmental protection. Through qualitative analysis of educational programs and community initiatives, this study identifies barriers to effective energy and environmental education in post-war Iraq, such as limited resources and outdated curricula. By advocating for a comprehensive approach that merges sustainable energy education with active environmental stewardship and legal awareness, this research underscores the need for targeted policies that empower youth to contribute to Iraq's recovery and resilience in the face of ongoing climate challenges.
