| الملخص | No critical concept in common use is more vaguely defined than is the symbol. In this article I propose to distinguish between structural and tonal symbolism, and to establish the distinction through the analysis of a number of prose passages. The yet wider question of thematic interpretation will be discussed in a subsequent paper. |
