الملخصElectric utilities encounter high-load demand during peak times leading to high losses in the power system. Recent research has targeted the improvement of efficient energy consumption at the demanding areas. Therefore, to facilitate building energy management systems, this article proposes a design of a Device-To-Device (D-D) negotiation mechanism enabling efficient demand response at the consuming locations. The proposed approach creates a local communication network and negotiation algorithm amongst the connected smart Internet of Things (IoT) devices that communicate with the main smart meter in the building. Moreover, the mesh networking topology is adopted to ensure a flexible and cooperative communication network amongst the IoT devices. Therefore, the employed communication network ensures the high reliability of the proposed energy D-D negotiation algorithm. Each IoT device receives information from the smart meter about the required amount of power consumption reduction and sends back information about its readiness to fulfill the requested power reduction. The D-D negotiation and decision-making algorithm of the IoT devices depends on the device's operation priority, power demand, and availability. Therefore, the proposed D-D negotiation algorithm ensures an educated decision-making process and reliable data communication to facilitate efficient energy management. 2021 IEEE.
