AbstractOzone has become the oxidizing agent of choice used in several applications. Recently, ozone generation has attracted researchers' attention to achieve further development in this field. Some of the crucial applications for ozone include air purification and water treatment. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a widely implemented approach for generating ozone due to its high efficiency, simplicity, and scalability. The ozone generation process consists of two main parts: the power supply and the ozone chamber. One of the critical considerations of ozone generators is choosing a convenient power supply for the process, meeting high output voltage and frequency requirements. Different types of power supplies were developed in the literature. Nonetheless, it was realized that they lack optimized performance indices with enhanced system requirements that should be considered for this application. This work proposes an AC power supply to improve the ozone generation process. Moreover, a bipolar pulsed power supply is developed and implemented to generate a high-voltage high-frequency pulsating waveform to produce ozone gas. The pulsed power supply is developed based on boost converters to generate the required voltage gain. A modular version of the pulsed generator was also proposed and discussed in detail. The proposed design is optimized in terms of cost, efficiency, and size to develop a high-performance reliable power supply. Additionally, it has low complexity and is highly reliable. The power supply is examined and analyzed in detail in this work. Moreover, the proposed topology's validity is verified experimentally and through simulation using the MATLAB/Simulink platform.
