شعارات القنوات التلفزية العربية: دراسة سيميولوجية لفعالية تصميم الجرافيك
Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to study the graphic design of Arab TV channels’ logos from a semiotic perspective. The research seeks to shed light on the Arab TV channels’ logos, in terms of their design and significations; explore the application of the communicative and esthetical foundations of graphic design, and classify logos based on semiotics. The main hypothesizes are: most of Arab TV channels’ logos do not adhere to the communicative and esthetical foundations of graphic design; there is no tradition that distinguishes Arabic TV channels’ logos compared to foreign TV channels, and most of Arab TV channels’ logos depend on written words. The study sample includes 763 Arab TV channels’ logos, classified into ten groups. The study concluded that most of Arab TV channels’ logos depended on written words and pointed out that the use of abbreviations is based on mimicry. This is because abbreviation in naming is not familiar with Arabic writing. The study also highlighted the misuse of visual symbols
