    Abstract
Abstract: This research attempts to analyze al-Bāqilānī’s book al-Tamhīd focusing on the Christian creeds on essence, hypostasis, and incarnation to infer the principles, results, and issues that al-Bāqilānī articulated in his book. It should be noted that studies on al-Bāqilānī’s book ignored this aspect of his contribution to knowledge and focus mainly on three types of research. First, research that makes a summary of al-Tamhīd. Second type of research focuses on al-Bāqilānī’s disputations with Christians and others. Third, the one that focuses on his place in the history of theological polemics between Muslims and Christians. More to the point, this research is mainly based on content analysis method. The research concludes that al-Bāqilānī utilizes the theological framework in his study of Christianity. However, he distinguishes himself from Muslim theologians by building his critique upon a set of rational postulates and develops several arguments from within the Christian theological sensibilities. Furthermore, he quotes extensively from both the Old and New Testaments. Additionally, he refers indirectly to the Chalcedonian Council documents. Finally, we consider him as the first Muslim theologian who both refers directly to the sources of other religions and establishes rational principles for their study.
