الملخصWater contamination is a serious environmental issue. It has detrimental effects on the living habitat. This contaminated water is treated with numerous physicochemical techniques. Presently, adsorption-enhanced photo-catalysis is considered among the most efficient method advanced oxidation methods for pollution alleviation. In this study, the novel Ag-doped Bismuth Tungstate and its composite with CFA were successfully synthesized using the hydrothermal-assisted ultra-sonication treatment. The Ag@Bi2WO6 and CFA-based Ag@Bi2WO6 composite samples were well characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDX, and XRD techniques. The characterization analysis supports the successful fabrication of catalysts including key functionalities observed in FTIR, structural morphology, and elemental analysis by SEM-EDX, and perfect crystallinity by XRD analysis. The efficient photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye was studied by optimizing several factors, including catalyst dose, pH, oxidant dose concentration, M.B dye concentration, and contact time. The CFA-based Ag@Bi2WO6 composite shows more than 98% photo-catalytic degradation of M.B dye under optimal conditions such as pH 8, oxidant dose 10 mM, catalysts dose 10 mg/100 mL, and reaction time 80 min. The catalyst's surface charge was determined using pH drift method and an effective correlation between the working pH and surface charge was observed to achieve maximum dye degradation efficiency. The effective radicals in promoting the dye degradation were estimated using a radical scavenging experiment and OH radicals were found to be the key radicals in promoting photocatalysis. The reaction kinetics were studied by using pseudo 1st and 2nd order reactions.
راعي المشروعCFA is currently one of the largest prevalent industry solid waste, and CFA emissions are growing yearly. Solid waste CFA is used in building materials including cement, mortar, concrete, road construction, backfill, filling mines, etc. The metal oxides present in coal fly ash can provide effective sites for hetero junctions. Scientists are currently working to develop low-cost, environmentally friendly catalysts, and the use of coal fly ash as an effective heterogeneous catalyst is one of them. CFA is one of the cheapest sources of catalysts. CFA contains many useful components magnetite, alumina, silica like zeolite, and many other trace elements which help them in photo-catalysis (Asl et al., 2019; Cardoso et al., 2015). CFA works like zeolite due to similar components and shows broad application prospects due to their reliability by providing a large surface area, and good chemical and thermal stability (Ren et al., 2020). The surface modification of CFA can be achieved by the addition of nanoparticles recently, CFA-based photocatalysts have been reported that enhance their efficiency of dye degradation such as Fly Ash/NiFe2O4 (Sonar et al., 2014), CFA-based zinc ferrite (Nadeem et al., 2022a), CFA-based copper ferrite (Nadeem et al., 2021c), coal fly ash supported CoFe2O4 (Nadeem et al., 2022b), MnFe2O4/CFA (Mushtaq et al., 2020), etc. By improving the separation of charge capacity and increasing the harvesting range of light, the production of heterojunction assemblies by semiconductors greatly boosts the photocatalytic behavior of new compounds (Yan et al., 2017). In photocatalytic processes, the Ag-doped bismuth tungstate has been used both alone and in combination with other materials (Huang et al., 2018; Chang et al., 2018). When compared to pure or mixed metal oxide compounds, a bismuth tungstate with Ag-doping demonstrates exceptional catalytic efficiency with good dye degradation due to the excellent stability of CFA fractions in various processes points to this substance as an effective catalysis support (Nadeem et al., 2022b). Ag-doped bismuth tungstate is expected to have its photocatalytic capabilities improved by the addition of CFA-supported Ag-doped bismuth tungstate. The authors extend their appreciation to the Researchers Supporting Project number (RSP2024R396), King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
