Abstract | Project success depends on many factors and knowledge that are used before and during the project lifecycle. They might depend on the type of projects and the level of understanding of project managers. In this thesis, a systematic literature analysis is used. The analysis provides 23 critical success factors, which are later grouped into top management support, project manager's skills, project team's skills, and stakeholder management knowledge. The review also provides four main project success criteria: delivering on time, within the budget, with expected quality, and satisfying stakeholders. The thesis explores the relationship between project performance and success factors through 23 hypotheses and that for project knowledge and project performance through ten hypotheses based on the response to a survey conducted for this thesis. The tests show a positive relationship to all hypotheses except for the relation between procurement knowledge and project performance. The thesis also provides research direction. |
