Mycoflora of cotton flowers and fungi associated with boll rot in egyptian cotton. I-saprophytic fungi
Abstract
Isolation of fungi was made for nine weeks post flower opening for two consecutive years from young floral segments and capsule components, on glocuse and cellulose agar media.
The capsule components possesed fewer fungi than those of young flower segments and this was due to the use of organophosphorus insecticide, Dursban, during this period.
Alternaria alternata followed by A. niger were the most common species on young floral segments, but A. niger followed by Rhizopus oryzae were the most frequent species on capsule, component segments.
