Some Aspects Of The Autecology Of Panicum Turgidum Forsk
Abstract
The germination of Panicum turgidum seeds was tested under different conditions. They showed ability to germinate under a range of temperatures from 25-42°C. The maximum percentage of germination was 45%, at 30°C. The species responded differently to the various chemical substances used to stimulate its germination. The particular effect of each chemical substance was discussed. The percentage of seedling emergence was highest in the case of seeds sown at 0. cm depth and decreased gradually as the depth increase. The species repsonded widely to the various combinations of soil types and water regimes. This represented an adaptation to the severe conditions prevailing in the habitat of this species.
