LOS PAÍSES DEL CONSEJO DE COOPERACIÓN DEL GOLFO E IRAQ
Abstract
Relations between Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council (gcc) countries and Iraq have been determined by the role that Iraq has played, both during the era of Saddam Hussein and after his fall. Having previously played the role of a State with aspirations of regional leadership, Iraq came to be perceived as an ally of an uncomfortable Iran, whom the gcc states consider to be the biggest expansionist threat in the Gulf region. Since the Arab Spring in particular, the position of, mainly, Saudi Arabia has been to limit and reduce the Iranian presence in Iraq and to prevent internal (sectarian) Iraqi conflicts from spreading to the rest of the Arabian Peninsula.
