Abstract | In this paper, Active and Reactive power management with the utility grid is achieved by integrating 7-level quasi Impedance Source Inverter (qZSI) with Thyristor based elements (Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC) and Thyristor Switched Reactor (TSR)). Major portion of the reactive power is managed by the thyristor based elements and the remaining reactive power is managed by the cascaded qZSI. The main advantage here is that the major part of power generated from PV array will be supplied as active power to the utility grid. The rating of cascaded qZSI for reactive power is equal to half of least rated thyristor based SVC component in the system. Master-Slave Controller for controlling voltage at output of quasi impedance network of individual modules and the converter current is implemented. Saving in inverter's rating with the proposed topology in comparison to using only cascaded qZSI (for both active and reactive power management) is also provided. The proposed topology is simulated using Matlab/Simulink and the proposed concept is validated. The hardware setup developed and the experimental results are presented that matches well with the simulation results and theoretical findings. |
