AbstractThis chapter examines the challenges and opportunities for food security in GCC countries and shed lights on the strategies undertaken by these countries to enhance their domestic food security. These include the measures taken after the 2008 world food crisis as well as the strategies announced by the GCC countries to diversify the domestic agri-food sector as part of their long-term economic vision. In addition, this chapter provides some insights into the impact of the current Gulf crisis on Qatar’s food security, to illustrate the role of geopolitics in food security in the Gulf.
