الملخصThis introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reviews the theories of foreign and security policy analysis and the way they could be applied to small states. It provides a general analysis of how the changes in the security dynamics of the Middle East are impacting on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states' external and internal alliance choices and policies. The book aims to develop a theoretical framework revolving around a liberal normative approach to security. It examines how the new foundations of the relationship between the United States and the GCC countries have also created some set-backs. The book explores Iran's foreign policy towards the smaller Gulf states since the Iranian revolution in 1979. It also provides an insightful analysis of Oman's foreign policy. The book discusses the evolving foreign and security policies of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
