| Abstract | تهتم هذه الدراسة بتتبع المكان وتشكيله ودلالاته في المجموعة القصصية (الأشياء أقرب مما تبدو في المرآة)، الصادرة سنة 2005م، للأديب العماني سليمان المعمري، إذ إن كل قصة من قصص هذه المجموعة تضم عددًا من الأمكنة ذات الدلالات المتناسبة أحيانًا والمتعارضة أحيانًا أخرى، ويمكن تصنيف هذه الأمكنة إلى عدة أنماط: مفتوحة ومغلقة، متحركة وثابتة، طبيعية وصناعية، محلية وعربية وغربية، وهي تتبادل عمليات التأثر والتأثير مع الشخصيات المتحركة داخلها/ خارجها، كما أنها كثيرًا ما تحكمت بنمط الأحداث ومساراتها التي اتخذتها، من هنا تأخذ هذه الأمكنة مركزيتها في هذه القصص، لتعكس أبعادها على النص كاملًا في أحيان كثيرة، وعلى أجزاء منه في أحيان أخرى، وتحمله بدلالاتها مشتبكة بالعناصر السردية. في بعض هذه القصص يتحول المكان عبر تقنية التشخيص إلى سارد/ شخصية بواسطة ضمير المتكلم. وبعض الأمكنة كانت لصيقة بالبيئة العربية فيما يشكل امتدادًا حضاريًا وشعوريًا للشخصيات، فيما الأخرى تنتمي إلى معالم المدنية الحديثة المرتبطة حضاريًا بالعالم الغربي، لتمثل المكان (الآخر)، فتكون بمثابة مرآة نفسية لحالة الاغتراب التي تعيشها الشخصيات الرئيسية، وهي سمة متكررة في هذه القصص. إن الأمكنة التي عالجتها هذه الدراسة في المجموعة القصصية هي أمكنة الطبيعة: الصحراء – البحر – الكهف، وأمكنة وسائل المواصلات والسفر: الطائرة – السيارة – القطار – قاعة المغادرين/ المطار، والمدن والقرى: المدينة-القرية – بغداد، وأجزاء المنزل: الغرفة – البالوعة، وأمكنة أخرى: المدرسة – عيادة الطبيب النفسي. |

| Alternative Abstract | The study is concerned with setting, its form, design, and significance in the 2006 short-story collection "Objects in the Mirror are Closer than They Appear " by the Omani author, Sulieman Al-Muammari. Each of these stories include a number of places with similar significance in some instances, and conflicting in others. These places can be classified into different patterns: open and closed; static and dynamic; natural and artificial; local, Arab, and Western. Setting exchanges influence with moving characters inside and outside such places. It also controls the flow and course of events. From there, setting has a central role in the aforementioned short-story collection, as it reflects its significance on the whole text in many instances, and on some parts of the text in other. It casts its implications over the narrative elements. In some of these stories the place turns into an I-narrator or a character through personalization techniques. Some of these places were very attached to the Arab environment as a civilized and emotional extensions to the characters. Some other places belong to modern Western civilization, to signify the "other" place, like a mirror reflecting the psychological condition of expatriates in the stories. It is a frequent feature in the stories. The places that appeared in the stories and are dealt with, analytically, in this study are: the natural places: the desert - the sea - the cave, the places of means of transportation and travel: the plane - the car - the train - the departure hall / airport, cities and villages: the city - the village - Baghdad, and the parts of the house: the room - the sink, and other places: the school - the psychiatrist's clinic. |
