Internal corrosion due to under deposit corrosion (UDC) is responsible for at least 20% of incidents in the oil and gas industry. As a result, over the past decade, UDC has received much attention from researchers, corrosion technologists, and failure analysts. This paper briefly presents an overview of the UDC definition and types of deposits involved, as they are related to different UDC mechanisms, focusing on the commonly used methods, techniques, and sensors used to inspect and monitor the UDC in C-steel oil and gas pipelines. Additionally, the latest mitigation strategies were discussed concisely. Finally, the article highlights the limitations of the most popular testing methods and briefly discusses future challenges in this area.
