AbstractNumerous hazardous substances are found in the environment, including antibiotics, pesticides, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), oil pollution, micro and nano plastics, as well as other emerging pollutants that can endanger human health and other living organisms. At the same time, these pollutants are, in many cases, very harmful and can produce highly toxic by-products through oxidation, hydrolysis, or chemical reactions in the environment. Conventional remediation methods are ineffective for removing various toxic pollutants from the environment. Furthermore, regulatory compliance has compelled scientists to either develop new methods or improve existing technologies in order to achieve operational deprivation and mineralization of pollutants.
