Introduction to reservoir fluids and rock properties
الملخص
Hydrocarbon reservoirs contain gas, oil, water, and brine within the pores. The interactions between these fluids and the reservoir rocks have a considerable role in distributing the phases in the porous media. Understanding the reservoir rocks and fluids properties determines the optimum plan to recover the hydrocarbon reserve from the reservoir. This chapter overviews the basic characteristics of reservoir rocks and fluids and the controlling forces. The mineralogy of the sandstone and carbonate rocks and unconventional reservoirs has been highlighted. Moreover, the different types of fluids that could be found in oil and gas reservoirs have been viewed, and the factors that control their development have been illustrated. The pore structure of reservoir rocks has been defined, including rock characteristics such as porosity, permeability, and rock mechanics. Finally, the interfacial and surface tension have been discussed and linked to the wettability and capillary pressure in the porous media. 2023 Elsevier B.V.
