| Abstract | أثرت كتابات يوحنا الدمشقي في العلاقات المسيحية الإسلامية، وأسهمت في تشكيل صورة عن الإسلام وأصوله لدى الغرب المسيحي، ويهدف البحث إلى تسليط الضوء على شخصية يوحنا الدمشقي وعلى موقفه من الإسلام والمسلمين والنبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، باستخدام منهج وصفي تحليلي وتاريخي ونقدي، وبيان الشبهات التي أثارها، وتتبع أبرز المتأثرين به من الجدليين المسيحيين الذين تناولوا الشبهات في كتاباتهم، والكشف عن الموقف المسيحي والإسلامي من يوحنا، وتحليل صورته المعروضة عبر الإعلام المرئي، وقد خلص البحث إلى أن يوحنا الدمشقي لم يكن منصفاً في تناوله للإسلام وأصوله مما يجعله رائد عدوان ومن أبرز معوقات الحوار الإسلامي المسيحي، ويوصي الباحث بمعالجة ما يثير الشقاق بين المسلمين والمسيحيين والتركيز على القضايا المشتركة التي تعزز التعايش والحوار بأسلوب هادئ ومفيد بعيداً عن التعصب والكراهية. |

| Alternative Abstract | The writings of John of Damascus have played a significant role in influencing Islamic-Christian relations and contributed to forming an image of Islam and its origins in the Christian West. This study aims to shed light on the personality of John of Damascus and his position on Islam, Muslims, and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The study has adopted descriptive, analytical, historical, and critical approaches. The study discussed the suspicions that John of Damascus raised and traced the most prominent Christian polemicists influenced by him. Moreover, the study also revealed the Islamic and Christian positions on John of Damascus and analysed his image displayed through the visual media. The study concluded that John of Damascus was not fair in his discussion about Islam and its origins, hence, this makes him a pioneer of aggression and one of the most prominent obstacles to Islamic-Christian dialogue. The study recommends to address what causes discord between Muslims and Christians and focusing on common issues that promote coexistence and dialogue in a peace and valuable manner away from fanaticism and hatred . |
