Digital revolution: impacts, opportunities, challenges

Abstract

After the Renaissance of the 15th century and the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries, we are now witnessing an enormous revolution, incomparable to the fi rst two, a revolution of a diff erent dimension. It's the digital revolution, a revolution that has profoundly disrupted the world throughout recent years. However, we have not yet reached the end of the opportunities it has presented. Digital innovation is such a powerful tool to reach this point by harnessing the exponential evolution of digital technology, the fl ourishing of machine learning models and algorithms, the emergence of artifi cial intelligence, and most recently, generative AI, the evolution of the Internet of Things, cloud architectures, and the rise of big data . At this level, several challenges arise, including the human tendency to resist change, the lack of expertise, budgets, and ethical considerations. Furthermore, we are required to exhibit an eminent creativity to integrate digitization into diff erent domains and ensure a smooth transition to new modes of work while keeping human resources at the heart of these changes
