Abstract | Aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMCs) fabricated by reinforcing aluminum matrix with ceramic particles have received considerable attention because of their superior properties over monolithic aluminum matrix. However, at the same time, the challenges limiting the more demanding applications of conventional ceramic reinforced composites are also widely reported. In view of the limitations of the ceramic reinforcements, metallic amorphous alloys have been proposed as alternate reinforcements. Superior mechanical properties and ease of processing of amorphous alloy particles/metallic glass make them attractive reinforcements for composites. This article highlights an overview of the earlier research work carried out in the area of amorphous particles reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites. More specifically, the processing methods, structural and mechanical properties of the amorphous particles reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites have been described in detail herein. |
