AbstractThis contribution is written from the materials chemist perspective, with a focus on the stepwise design of multicomponent catalytic materials. Two major types of nanocatalyst support are considered: mesoporous silicaMesoporous silica obtained by bottom-up synthetic approach and biocharBiochar obtained by thermochemical conversionThermal conversion of the biomass. The recent literature is reviewed, and methods of immobilization of the nanocatalysts during or post-synthesis of the porous supports are described. Advances in catalytic water treatment for the removal of organic molecules are summarized and discussed. The chapter finishes with a short description of the interest and implementation of modern porous nanocomposite catalysts in water treatment systems.
