AbstractThis study extracts and examines lineaments from microwave and optical remote sensing data. The study discusses two DEMs of the Jahazpur area, Bhilwara, India, generated from C-band microwave data of Sentinel-1A and L-band microwave data of ALOS PALSAR, and examines these with two other DEMs available in the open-source. Automatic lineament extraction was performed on shaded relief maps derived from all four DEMs, and the lineaments were evaluated using lineament density maps and rose diagrams. The study illustrates that both C-band and L-band microwave data are capable of generating good-quality DEMs. The study shows that the lineaments extracted from different DEMs are significantly influenced by the wavelength. The longer wavelength, C-band, and L-band microwave data are able to show lineaments that are not visible in optical data. This study brought out the general trend of the lineament from lineament density maps, which support the geological map of the study area.
