Vector Control of Dual 3-ϕ Induction Machine-Based Flywheel Energy Storage System Using Fuzzy Logic Controllers
Abstract
In the renewable, islanded microgrid and transportation applications, the flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) will play a significant role due to its potential benefits, like long life span, fast dynamics and high charging/discharging range. The reliability of flywheel energy storage systems is an essential characteristic when it is applied to support critical loads or fault ride-through purposes. Therefore, this work proposes the exploitation of multiphase machines’ reliability features in FESS applications. In this chapter, the vector control along with the fuzzy logic control (FLC) algorithms is proposed for a dual 3-ϕ induction machine (IM)-based FESS. The FLC ensures fast and smart vector control that suits the nature of critical applications. The validation of a proposed dual 3-ϕ IM-based FESS system is done in MATLAB/Simulink, where the case study under normal condition on FESS and machine mathematical model is presented in detail.
