AbstractCatalytic conversion of syngas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) into valuable hydrocarbon products, particularly light olefins (C2=-C4=), holds significant importance in the realm of sustainable and clean energy production. Iron-based catalysts exhibit remarkable potential due to their abundance, catalytic activity, and adaptability to syngas conversion. This chapter presents a comprehensive overview of iron-based catalysts utilized in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) process to facilitate the production of light olefins from syngas. Also, it delves into the critical analysis of existing literature, encompassing the fundamental aspects and recent advancements in the field, and the role of various catalyst promoters and supports is explored, shedding light on their influence on catalyst performance. By comprehensively analyzing the synergy among catalyst composition, phase transitions, promoters, supports, and reaction conditions, this chapter contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the field of iron-based catalysts for FTS, with a specific focus on light olefins production from syngas. As the demand for sustainable and versatile hydrocarbon feedstocks grows, iron-based catalysts continue to be a promising avenue for the production of light olefins through syngas conversion.
