INVESTIGATION OF THE WATER TURBIDITY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH PSEUDOMONAS OCCURANCE IN THE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM IN QATAR
Abstract
The Gulf area, encompassing Qatar, depends significantly on saltwater desalination to satisfy rising water demands. The water supply system in a city is dynamic and multifaceted, which requires an integrated and comprehensive approach for its sustainability and resiliency, for supplying safe water for the urban population. The relationship between turbidity in water and the occurrence of Pseudomonas is well established. However, it is necessary to consider that it is also dependent on the characteristics of the water, the Pseudomonas ability to form biofilms, as well as the physical and chemical composition of the water are the most important factors in establishing a relationship between turbidity and the bacterium Pseudomonas. There are other factors besides microbial growth that affect the link between turbidity and Pseudomonas in water supply systems, such as Pipe material, flow rate and pressure & nutrient availability in the water. This research aims to investigate the water quality in the water supply systems in Qatar: Selected zones as representatives, Seasonal variation of the water quality and occurrence of Pseudomonas and Investigation of the distribution of Pseudomonas & its diversity.
