AbstractInduction motors turn out to be the economical workhorses in the industry for the AC motor drive application. To satisfy the steady-state and transient performance specification of AC drives, control techniques are required for the induction motors. This paper presents the different control methods of the induction machine such as the scalar control, direct torque control (DTC), and the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC). Also, the principle of operation with the required mathematical equations and the Simulink models for the DTC and IFOC methods are described in detail. Moreover, these methods are implemented using MATLAB/Simulink, and their results are verified. A comparison between these methods is presented.
