| Abstract | تهدف هذه الدراسة المسحية إلى وصف وتحليل آراء طلاب برنامج اللغة الإنجليزية المكثف بجامعة الملك فيصل حول مناهج وطرق تدريس البرامج المذكور بغية تطويره. بلغ عدد أفراد العينة 308 طالب وطالبة يمثلون كل طلاب السنة التحضيرية في كليتي الطب والعمارة بفرع الجامعة بالدمام خلال العام الجامعي96/1997 م . ووزع عليهم استبيان ضم 58 استجابة 42 منها حول المناهج و 7 حول طرق التدريس و 9 حول تقييم الطلاب للبرنامج. وتم تحليل النتائج التي لم تخرج في مجملها عن نتائج الدراسات السابقة، وإن حمل بعضها انفراجا في بعض المفاهيم النظرية السابقة التي اعتقدنا بصحتها زمنا طويلاً ومن بين ابرز النتائج تفضيل الطلاب للمدرسين من متحدثي الإنجليزية كلغة أصلية (الام)، والحديث بالعربية داخل الفصل لشرح معاني الكلمات، واستعمال مختبرات اللغة، وإضافة مهارة التحدث، واستعمال الحاسب الآلي، و إضافة ورشة عمل، و استعمال القواميس (إنجليزي- عربي+ عربي- إنجليزي). كما لم يبد الطلاب رغبة في زيادة تحصيلهم الدراسي. وتبين الدراسة خصوصية برامج اللغة الإنجليزية في الجامعات التي اختلفت في بعض الأوجه عن برامج اللغة العامة. لذا خرجت الدراسة ببعض التوصيات التي تجدر مراعاتها في مناهج وطرق تدريس برامج اللغة الإنجليزية في الجامعات، كما جاء تقييم الطلاب العام للبرنامج على درجة "جيد". |

| Alternative Abstract | This descriptive study aims at investigating and analyzing the attitudes of students of the Intensive English Language Program at King Faisal University towards the curriculum and instruction of the said program for development purposes. The sample of the study consisted of 308 students representing all the male and female students enrolled in the preparatory year at the colleges of medicine and architecture in Dammam university campus during 1996. A questionnaire of 58 responses was distributed . 42 of them cover the curriculum, 7 cover the instruction, and 9 about students' evaluation of the program. The data were analyzed then discussed. The findings were in general not different from the previous research though some carry a divergence from the theories which have been accepted for quite some time. Some of the prominent results are: students' preference of native teachers, speaking Arabic in class to explain new vocabulary, using language laboratories, adding the speaking skill to the program, using computers in learning the language, adding a workshop to the program, and using (English¬Arabic +Arabic-English) dictionaries. They did not show interest in learning more than they should. The study shows how university language programs differ in some facets from general language programs. Therefore, the study ends with some recommendations that ought to be taken into account in the curriculum and instruction of college or university English language programs. The overall evaluation of the program by students came out as "good". |
