Energy transition: Empowering school students to achieve nonzero carbon future]
Abstract
This ongoing research focuses on empowering school students to actively participate in achieving a non-zero carbon future by integrating sustainable energy topics into the educational curriculum. The study addresses the critical global movement towards renewable and sustainable energy sources, emphasizing the importance of educating the younger generation about reducing carbon emissions and adopting sustainable practices. The research problem highlights the lack of comprehensive integration of sustainable energy topics in the national curriculum, leading to insufficient environmental awareness among students. The study aims to design a curriculum that incorporates these topics across all educational stages and proposes strategies for training educators to teach these subjects effectively. The research employs a qualitative methodology with a correlational design to examine the relationships between curriculum integration, student knowledge, and attitudes towards sustainable energy. Approximately 50 school students and teachers from various schools in Oman will participate, selected through stratified random sampling. The instruments used in this ongoing research will be a questionnaire and surveys, which will be distributed to participants.
